Our top ten
In the brand new and beautiful Mandarin Oriental Hotel, the table on everyone’s lips is with no doubt: Moments.
The Chef Carme Ruscalleda and her son Raül Balam are revisiting Catalan recipes and even inventing the first anti-aging menu of Barcelona..
On the Catalan side of the menu you will discover totally renewed classical dishes like Arroz caldoso de gamba con picada de pescador (rice dish with broth) - Fricandó (veal stew) and suquet (fish stew) - Shrimp Tartar- Seabass with fig chutney and hibiscus salt - Veal Cheeks with turnip vegetable ravioli and red fruits..
A delight and lot of imagination!!
But even more visionary and trendy: a “anti-aging” menu where the food chosen by Carme Ruscalleda and Dr. Manuel Sanchez - head of the Anti-aging Unit Clinic Planas- , specialist in the anti-age treatments, conceal only the most miraculous properties to preserve an “iron constitution”.
In this menu, mini pizza pies with artichokes and the Joselito ham, or macaroni with buckwheat accompanied by scallops and vegetables… a great idea!
A very chic venue already awarded by 2 Michelin Stars in 2013..

Can Pineda exists since 1904. If you want to discover the Catalan traditional cuisine in all its perfection, it will be necessary to leave a little the downtown area. But this will quickly be forgotten!
Attended by regulars and by the finest gourmets of the city, Can Pineda has only one rule: to offer best products of the season, if possible from proximity with however few exemptions which you will understand easily: the foie gras comes from France, the white truffle from Alba, the pata negra from Jabugo…
Once this said, what's left is a festival of typical receipts to feel giddy: "huevos poché con foie y trufa, arroz con sepia, setas y bogavante, anchoas de Getaria, albóndigas con sepia, gambas, chuletón o entrecot de buey, estofado de rabo de buey con cigalas…".
An extraordinary high level restaurant which proposes also a tasting menu at 35€ (without the wine)..
It is expensive but the pleasure inevitably up to the mark!
Opening hours : Tuesday to saturday from 1pm to 4 pm and from 9pm to 11pm // Closed on sunday and monday.

Imagine two chefs, with professional records as long as their arms, to open a restaurant of tapas where one would like to come every day: It’s Bambarol.
Cirera and Firpo worked at best places like : Saüc, Bulli, Can Roca, Moo... For finally returning to their roots: a Mediterranean, Catalan and gastronomical cuisine as their mothers and grandmothers would have done it. But a cuisine revisited by 15 years of technique and voyages.
At the menu, cold or hot tapas of which we retain with emotion this day: a salmon marinated, the rice of the day, a fish ragout, a pot of lamb or an extraordinary sirloin. The carte changes according to the seasons and the products. Benefit from the 25€ menu which is dazzling.
It is far from the center, the gourmets will have to make an effort…
Opening hours : Tuesday to Saturday from 13.30 to 23.00

For foody in love with textures, colors and flavors, 4amb5 Mujades is the new restaurant to discover in Barcelona.
If we have not understood the meaning of the name of this restaurant - 4amb5 - that would be a reference to a unit of measurement of agricultural land. We have however immediately understood the spirit of the place: a tribute to the world of plants and vegetables, where animal protein if not forgotten is only a condiment. Known concept but wonderfully expressed by the young chefs Toni Romero and Quim Coll. Like at Céleri, vegetables are the stars of the dishes and each dish is a journey thru the forgotten tastes or the one to rediscover. The expertise there is amazing of dexterity and invention at the image of this dish: Eggplant Yakitori grilled with sesame seeds, sesame oil, soy reduction, onion rings and cilantro flowers (11 €).
We can only advise you, the gastronomic menu to go around 9 or 11 vegetable dishes, classified by group: roots, flowers, leaves and fruits. A menu which changes - like the seasons - 4 times a year. This is totally organic and is not overly expensive for such an experience: count thirty euros.
One leaves delighted after an incredible experience for both eyes - beautiful decoration of the room, made of genuine planting vegetables and herbs - and the palate.
Opening hours : Wednesday, to Mondays from 13:00h to 16:00h and from 20:00h to 23:30h.

To the question: "Why do you buy rice and flowers?" Confucius, a long time ago, replied: “you’re asking why I buy rice and flowers? I buy rice to live and flowers to have something to live for”. This metaphor, charged with wisdom and foresight, which has become a kind of rule of life and work for Sanchez Romera in his new restaurant "Rice".
Sanchez Romera was a doctor before becoming a cook. His former specialty: neurology. 20 years after his change of vocation, medicine remains at the heart of his new profession, seeing his cooking as a link between science, health and art. Neuroscience now helps him to implement a culinary experience where emotions, memory and the pleasure of food are expertly orchestrated.
If all this sounds complex, the result is much easier to see and enjoy. In a setting close to a contemporary art gallery made of white walls and works or photos very colorful as bouquets of flowers. At table a succession of small dishes plays on colors and juxtapositions of flavors inspired by Mediterranean and Asian cuisine.
It's beautiful, fine and subtle like these "Barcelona rolls" - a kind of rice uramaki of all colors, scented with cuttlefish ink, curry or turmeric. Like this black rice with kombu butter, curry shrimps, garlic cuttlefish and parsley. Or as with this cockerel simmered in soy sauce and vegetables.
When we tell you that the evening menu is proposed for the sum of 45 or 35 euros depending on the number of dishes, you’ll understand that this restaurant wants to stay in a very affordable price range.
This "doctor-chef" is well-known beyond his walls, known for his books, lectures and various interventions around the world, his new restaurant is to live as a totally unique experience.

As you are walking down Aragó street, next to Rocafort, suddenly you find a restaurant called Can Vallès.
One might think that he has bumped into another Barcelona's bar, and here comes the big mistake. This restaurant with, at first gland, simple appearance, has a lot to show us.
The quality, detail and care of the dishes is equivalent to the outstanding restaurants in the city. Recipes made with the best products on the market.
Some dishes: chickpeas with lobster, pork feet cannelloni, fresh seafood, meat served on a hot stone, fresh salads and some very nice tapas!
The desserts...? Try the cheesecake or chocolate cake with cinnamon ice cream.
And.. the best wines selection!
Do not forget to book in advance as this is a small but very popular place .

Dos Palillos or when traditional spanish tapas get inspired by delicate savors of Asia…
Albert Raurich has been working at El Bulli from 1997 to 2007 where he was head chief for the last 6 years of his journey with Ferran Adrià … That is to say that he knows quite well about cuisine inspiration and innovation…
At Dos Palillos the chef decided to get his inspiration from the far east cuisine, that is mostly from Japan, China, Thailand and Vietnam. And what an inspiration!!
Imagine Asian savors married with Spanish traditional tapas and products like seafoods, fish, fresh vegetables of the market, prown, tuna, meat…
Imagine now tempura, raw dishes, woked dishes, steamed dishes, grilled dishes..
Albert Raurich’s tapas are pure creativity and grace..
We loved fresh seaweed sunomono with molluscs, Japanese burger, meat Gyoza,Cantonese style Iberian pork, prawn steamed dumpling..
Two degustation menus at 55 and 75€ but they prefer to say one hour and half menu or two hours menu..

Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine brought up to date. It is at Vivant and this is one of our favorite places.
In the district of Sant Joan, everyday more welcoming: Libertine, Granja Petitbo, El Viti Taberna, Chicha Limonà.. Vivant is the local reference that is worth to cross the city.
Beautiful decor, sober and Nordic fashion 50s style, where Chef takes fun revisiting a Spanish and Catalan cuisine with flair. Twice a year a new carte, always with tapas to share, entrees and dishes to satisfy everyone at every hour. Unmissable are the Patatas Braves (€ 4.5) we immediately place in a top 5 in Barcelona for the two sauces that accompany them. Also remarkable the Calamari & Boutifarra (9.5 €), the Ortiguilles de mar - sea anemones - (€ 8.75), the tataki of tuna(€ 11.2), the Bacallà Confitat (9.5 €). Each receipes enhanced by a sauce or a perfect combination of flavors.
You understood the prices are very reasonable given the quality of products and the modernity of the cuisine.
Lunch menu 12.90 €.. Hard to beat!

Metro/Bus : Tetuan, Girona,
In the heart of the Eixample, two blocks from the Plaça de Catalunya and five minutes walking from Casa Batlló, lies Monvínic, Barcelona's wine bar reference and gourmet restaurant.
A design decoration for a rare place that imagines itself as a cultural wine centre and succeeds in combining a cuisine full of imagination made of seasonal products and inventive juxtapositions with a wine cellar open to all the best winegrowers in the world, on the sole condition that they are outstanding, a condition decreed by Isabelle Brunet, former sommelier of Ferran Adrià.
The wine bar, elegantly lighted, provides you with an interactive map of the cellar. You can choose your wine intuitively thanks to geographical maps, descriptions of wine growers such as vintages, grape varieties, terroirs... But don't panic with this electronic tool, it is still the sommeliers who speak best of their wines and will confirm your choices.
Every day about forty bottles are opened for tasting by the glass (between 7 and 10€ on average). Wines that come from all over the world with a beautiful place reserved for natural wines and in any case for winegrowers who make efforts to limit or even eliminate the sad "inputs".
Ask for Erik Rosdahl's Jumilla (escombro or autoretrato), or Ismael Gozalo's wines from Valladolid. It will also be necessary to taste natural wines of Galicia..
A real initiatory journey into the land of "good people" and unknown aromas. Dazzling.
At the bar you can enjoy these discoveries with tapas or with a remarkable lunch menu at 19,50€ with a glass of wine.
In the restaurant, you must let yourself be guided by Ariadna Julian and his menu "El fil d'Ariadna" (80€) or choose a la carte dishes of the seasons that invariably invite you to discover new wines.
Notable in this season: the spring vegetables cocotte (15€), mussel and pistachio ravioli with saffron (21€). The menu changes every month.
Gastronomes curious about great wines have found their refuge!
