Antoni Tàpies
The Antoni Tàpies foundation was created by the Catalan painter Antoni Tàpies in 1984 to promote the study and understanding of modern art and culture.

Of course you will find works from all periods of the artistic development of Antoni Tapies. You will appreciate the beautiful library devoted to modern literature and documentation on the art and artists of our century.
The foundation is housed in a building by the modernista architect Lluís Domènech i Muntaner.
The roof terrace alone is worth a visit.
After 2 years of architectural reforms by the firm of architects Ábalos-Sentkiewicz, the foundation was reopened in March 2010 with renewed exhibition spaces in order to recuperate the industrial character of the building and a new entrance to the museum to improve the areas of reception and bookshop… To see!!

The temporary exhibitions are of a rare quality... a beautiful place and a great artist.

I last visited the Tapies foundation some 15 years ago and had been so impressed that I insisted my teen age children should see Tapies' work at the foundation. It was a total disappointment for all of us. There are hardly any Tapies works on display and little explanation about the artist or his work. Two thirds of the space was used for a Kerry James Marshall (that I do not rate highly...). The shop was closed so we could not even look at books about his work. When we expressed our disappointment we were told that because it was a foundation - rather than a museum - there was less of his work on display (sic). It would be like a Mirò foundation with no Mirò... Please get real, people travel from afar to admire Tapies' Genius and it is the foundation's duty and raison d'être to show his work.

J'adore Tapies, mais l'expo proposée dans cette fondation (à 7 euros par pesonne quand même) était des plus décevantes: seulement 18 oeuvres de Tapies exposées sur un etage, dont 3-4 vraiment bien. Le reste de l'expo etait absolument sans interet: du bric a brac et des photos de barrages... Bref une grosse frustration!! Rien à voir avec la fondation Miro qui elle propose plusieurs dizaines d'oeuvres de Miro...

This piece, from the artist’s personal collection, has been loaned to the foundation for public exhibition for the first time. Along with the other selections in this show, it reveals the importance materials often have in Antoni Tàpies’ work.

Venue à Barcelone en partie pour voir des toiles de Tapies , quelle déconvenue de me trouver devant une porte close !
