Our stay at the Colón Hotel Barcelona was truly one of the highlights of our trip. Right from the moment of our arrival, we were blown away by the exceptional level of service provided by the staff. Our room had a direct view of the beautiful cathedral in a bustling square, which made for a truly picturesque setting. While the room itself may have been simple, it was spacious and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The breakfast and restaurant options were fantastic, with a wide variety of delicious dishes to choose from. We were also impressed by the graciousness and helpfulness of all the staff, from the concierges to the breakfast room attendants. We even took advantage of the speedy and affordable laundry service during our stay. The real gem of this hotel, however, is the rooftop bar and restaurant which offers breathtaking views of the cathedral. The location of the hotel is also unbeatable, with major attractions such as the Rambla, opera house, and Picasso Museum within walking distance. And if you need to venture further, there is a convenient taxi stand located right next to the hotel. Overall, we would say that this 4-star hotel truly exudes a 5-star experience.

During my recent stay in Barcelona, I checked into a hotel that appeared to be in a prime location. However, my experience was far from pleasant. As soon as I entered my room, I heard loud noises coming from a neighboring room. I assumed it was just some minor repairs, but the noise only escalated with drilling, hammering, and scraping sounds. When I asked the front desk how long this would last, I was told there was ongoing work. I was taken aback as this was not disclosed to me before booking or upon arrival.

I then requested to speak with the manager, but was informed that she was in a meeting. I agreed to wait in the lobby, but after several minutes with no word from the manager, I decided to return to my room where the noise continued. Frustrated, I began searching for another hotel online and luckily found one just around the corner (Hotel Barcelona Catedral). I quickly repacked my bags and went back down to reception, where the manager was now speaking to the desk clerk. I informed the clerk that I would be checking out and expected not to be charged for the room.

The manager half-heartedly apologized and mentioned that the hotel was undergoing renovations (which I could also hear from the reception area). I questioned why I was not informed about this earlier, but received no answer. To my shock, I was told that the work would continue from 10:00am to 5:00pm every day. When I asked the manager about her hotel management training, she mentioned that the hotel was privately owned. I reiterated that I would not be paying for the room and left. The bellmen who helped me with my bags refused to accept a tip, showing more kindness and sympathy than the manager.

It was clear to me that the bellmen should be running the hotel, not the management. I was disappointed with the lack of communication and consideration from the manager, who did not offer any help in finding another hotel or provide compensation for the inconvenience. Overall, my experience at this hotel was unpleasant and I would not recommend it to others.

The rooms were absolutely stunning, boasting incredible views of the grand Barcelona Cathedral. Each morning, we were greeted by the enchanting melodies emanating from the cathedral steps as we opened our door. On Sundays, we were delighted to witness the lively dancing crowds in the nearby square. The hotel's central location made it the perfect base for exploring the city on foot, whether it be the waterfront or the iconic Sagrada Familia. Breakfast was a treat, with a scrumptious spread and the option to order eggs. The staff were always so helpful and friendly, making our stay even more enjoyable. We make it a point to stay here every time we visit Barcelona. The rooftop bar offers a splendid panorama of the city. Furthermore, from 10:00 PM onwards, the hotel is blessedly peaceful and quiet until the morning hours.

During our stay, we were assigned a room on the third floor, which happened to be undergoing some renovations. We were informed beforehand that there would be construction noise, but it was still quite disruptive and woke us up at times as early as 7:53 am.

I recently stayed at the Colón Hotel Barcelona in the heart of the city and I must say, the location could not have been more ideal. Situated on the outskirts of the old quarter, everything Barcelona has to offer was just a stone's throw away. My group and I were lucky enough to have five rooms with stunning views of the cathedral, all on different floors for added privacy. However, I have to mention one major issue that put a damper on our stay - the extreme temperature fluctuations throughout the hotel. Despite the chilly weather outside, the rooms and hallways were uncomfortably warm with no option to adjust the A/C. This meant that we couldn't leave the windows open at night due to the disruptive noise from the nearby plaza, resulting in restless nights for all of us. When we brought this up to the front desk, their response was defensive and they simply stated that the A/C is turned off after November 1st. While this may be true, it was clear that the hotel lacked individual temperature controls for each room, making it difficult for guests to have a comfortable stay. It's worth noting that this hotel claims to be four stars - a rating I find hard to justify with this experience. As a travel advisor, I cannot recommend this hotel to my clients as the sleep quality was subpar. On the bright side, the breakfast buffet was delicious, but I must mention that the majority of the staff were not particularly friendly or helpful. The lobby area and exterior of the hotel were charming and well-maintained, but the rooms themselves were lacking. There was minimal decor and the layout was not conducive for two people sharing a room, with the desk positioned too close to the bed. In my opinion, some renovations and updates are needed to live up to the hotel's potential.
