Cuines Santa-Caterina - Barcelona

Cuines Santa-Caterina - Barcelona

Cuines Santa Caterina is located in the brand new Santa Caterina's market - renovated by top architects Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue of EMBT - in El Born district.

Cuines means kitchens in Catalan. Cuines with a S because this restaurant offers 4 different types of kitchens: Asian, Mediterranean, Italian and vegetarian…

Fusion food starts to be one of Barcelona’s restaurants trademarks since one year or two. At Cuines Santa-Catarina we are pleased to tell you that the bet is successful. No surprise Cuines is part of Tragaluz Group known for others refined places like: Omm hotel, Bestial, Negro, Tragaluz, Agua...

We like very much the beautiful decoration which reminded Scandinavian interior design by its simplicity of the materials made of wood, stone, Ficus trees planted in between tables, columns of light and an entire wall composed of shelves stacked with stocks of wine, olive oil, vinegars, flours...

As we said food is very imaginative and of course coming directly from the market. Why not mix a bit of everything? Try delicious vegetarian salads like one with melted cheese, nuts and dates (6€), green asparagus perfectly grilled at la plancha with spicy Romesco sauce (7€), assortment of antipasto (11€). Then have perfect risotto like the one with langoustines (10€), suquet de rap (10€), gambas with garlic (12€) or head Japan and take not the best one but very fresh sushi and maki (from 10 to 20€).

At these prices you understand that Cuines Santa-Caterina became rapidly the hottest place in town appreciated by local’s business man as well as by well informed tourists ;-)

The restaurant is non smoker but you can have tapas at the entrance bar where smoking is allowed and tapas very good!!.

Perfect place at noon. Go there at 1pm because at 2pm it’s full.

a great address
Our meal at this charming restaurant was marked by exquisite dishes, including chuletón as a main course and innovative starters such as wild boar mortadella. The attentive service and unique desserts, although limited in choice, completed a memorable culinary experience.

  3. Excellent food, great ambiance - Nellie Barrios (17 Aug 2013 - 09:00)

Went to the adjacent market that was just shutting down for the afternoon. Had a delicious salad with falafel patties and sizzling shrimp with roasted garlic perfectly cooked with some crusty fresh bread. Delicious- would highly recommend.

  4. Parfait - Amazone (4 Jul 2012 - 09:00)

  6. Lobster Dinner - Frank and Agatha Rasmussen (1 Oct 2011 - 06:15)

On thursday the 22nd of September, we went to the restaurant, that had been highly recommended by our son !
We were the first ones there and ordered the grilled lobster.
When the lobster arrived it tasted of petroleum, we complained to the waiter, to no avail, they all insisted that there was nothing wrong with the lobster.
However, we could not eat it and ordered something else, after having asked them to taste it, which they would not!
To our big surprise when we got the bill not only did they charge for the lobster , they claimed that we had eaten it!!!
We refused to pay for the lobster, and told them that they could call the police if they wanted to, which they actually did! (or probalby not).
At this point we just paid the bill and left, but we feel reallly, really, cheated, and think that people should know that they could run into this, if they are they are the first ones to arrive!
We really feel bad about this experience, as we were made to feeel as liers!
All in all a very bad experience that we would not recommend to anybody!

  7. poco y caro - gabriela (21 Sep 2011 - 08:15)

  10. Cuines Santa Caterina - Mike Bailey (3 Aug 2011 - 10:45)

Nice restaurant, awful service. They think they are so popular that they don't need to offer you drinks, they bring the food out willy nilly so you can end up watching your fellow diners eat, then they get to watch you when you get yours (aparently it's 'the rule' according to one of the waiting staff. If you complain they will suddenly pretend they don't speak English, and if that makes you angry expect to be followed out of the restaurant and challenged by the male staff! It takes arrogance to a new level. Avoid this place.

  11. Cuines Santa Caterina - Javier (30 Jul 2011 - 12:00)

  12. Excellent Food - Rod (28 Jun 2011 - 14:00)

This place was recommended to us on our stay in Barcelona. Fantastc larger portions of tapas. Had the gyoza which was great and calamari with asparagus which was very tasty and tender. Also had the Pork rack for 2 which was amazingly tender. Would highly recommend this to anybody. Simple ingredients that are super fresh. Not a restaurant that over does it with too many flavours. Simple, tasty with a focus on the produce that they use. The decor is also very nice. Not that noisy as some people say, but then again, there is no pleasing some people who wouldn't know quality restaurant food if it slapped them in the face. Our best food experience in Barcelona to date.

  13. Delusione - Bruna - Italia (23 May 2011 - 17:15)

  15. Loved it First time, never going again after second time - Suse (9 May 2011 - 21:15)

Well... Sometimes First impressions don't last. After ny First visit to the cantina I loved it. Great food. Great service. Got the steamed mussels and creme catalan for dessert. Absolutly excellent atmosphere. As a turist you find too many expensive and bad places that you never want to visit again, but this place I wanted to visit again and the sooner the better. So I went the day after. Ordered the goat and.... Got soooo disapointed. I seldom complain at restaurants, but I knew this place could serve good food, so I asked if this really could be right.... This the waitors basically made a mockery of and hence after hardly looked to our side. So we left. Hungry and without having dessert... And leaving tips!

  16. Restaurant Cuina Santa Cathérina Barcelone - Gérard Bessière (9 May 2011 - 21:15)

  17. Lovely!Even if you have Kids! - Bcn Girl (6 May 2011 - 09:00)

I live in Barcelona, and this is one of my favourite places to go! Yes is always Packed! Yes is a bit Price for some. Yes sometimes a bit noise and the waiters cold be more friendly, but the FOOD is FRESH! Tasty and the choice of dishes spoils you.
Every time we go we try something different and so far there was nothing that wasn't great, presentation fab and for me very reasonable price.
Plus you can go with kids and they love it!
Strange for me that some people have bad reviews about this place, them again I suppose some people will have bad reviews pretty much about any place!
GO and enjoy fresh, tasty and lovely food!

  18. Cuines Santa Caterina - Ana (1 May 2011 - 10:30)

We ate there twice, and were delighted every time.
On our first evening, we had succulant roasted lamb with crispy potatoes, steamed mussels and some increcibly rich cheese cake, as well as half a litre of the very acceptable white house wine.
On our second evening, it was grilled baby calamary with green asparagus and artichokes with clams and ham, a selection of cheese (manchego of different ages, something cheddar-like, fresh fruit and a jam made from quince and spices) as well as the mentioned wine and half a litre of bottled sparkling water (vichy catalan). Then we shared the citrus-y creme catalan and had two glasses of excellent cava - all in all, we payed 50 euro. (Not to mention the selection of breads!) We SO would love to come back!!!

  19. 6 Gambas for 18 euros !!! - Ludovic (from Belgium) (26 Apr 2011 - 10:15)

I went to Cuines Santa-Caterina on this 25 April. First I was a bit surprised about the price for Gambas with Garlic...it was about 18 euros... but I took the risk to take it thinking that for this price I would receive a good portion of gambas...but I was really surprised when I received finaly only 6 gambas.. oh yes in the plate it looked big because they let the shrimp heads..that for sure I don't eat. So maybe other dishes are good but never take the gambas there...! Restaurant was also too crowded and too noisy...it seems popular but I'm a bit surprised..because quality/quantity/price ration is for me not so good...

  20. Cuines Sta Caterina - Angela (30 Mar 2011 - 08:45)

If you understand the concept it is a top restaurant. We've frequented this restaurant for over 2 years and no complaints.
The concept means that you have to read properly what the menue offers.
A great variety of cuisines. And great quality!
The architecture inside is inspirational. I have recommended this restaurant to many friends meanwhile and everybody came back very enthousiastic.
Even with our granddaughter of 9 yrs now it still is a great place to eat.
The public in general is not 60+, but if you are that age or older you will be treated as a king/queen like everybody else.
Good luck with you kitchen and keep on! Within 2 years we will be bact again!

  21. Not good - McNamara (12 Feb 2011 - 09:30)

Not a very European restaurant, as they care more about the volume of the people they serve then the quality of food. The steak was very, very rare and when they took it back to fix it, it came back still as rare. Worst meal in Barcelona, and the most expensive.

  22. Oui, à faire. - Quenelle67 (1 Feb 2011 - 10:30)

  26. Cuines Santa-Caterina is just great - tom (24 Jul 2010 - 14:46)

we enjoyed very much Cuines Santa-Caterina for its types of cuisine and design of the place.. loved the market as well.. recommend

  30. Good restaurant - Timo (2 Oct 2009 - 12:30)

Really good place! Food is excellent and cheep! We ate for only 60 Euro 2 courses and a bottle of wine. The layout of the restaurant is really nice especially the open kitchen. When you are in Barcelona and you are looking for places to eat you should at least go once to this restaurant.

  31. cuines santa caterina - ivntylr (13 Jul 2009 - 15:12)

have been going to this restaurant for the last five years and it has never disappointed. the food is superb - esp. the suckling pig!! a great way to eat is to have tapas in the bar, then move on to the restaurant for main course. atmosphere is buzzing and the service is always friendly. it gets really busy though, so be prepared for a bit of a wait - but the service in the bar means you'll always have a drink!!!!

  32. Cuines santa caterina - tpuro (22 Nov 2008 - 10:11)

  37. Cuines Santa CATERINA - BURNS (29 Jan 2008 - 12:51)

We went to this resturant twice in three days as it was fantastic with a superb atmosphere. It offers a great tapas menu which we used as a starter and then the main menu is brillaint and the food cooked to a high quality. The suckling pig was just beautiful. We cannot recommend this enough if you are looking for a lively yet intimate dining experience. We sat at the kitchen bar which has changed my views on this way of seating. MUST GO

  38. Cuines - Julie & Micheline (24 Jan 2008 - 19:50)
