Back in the Roman period this square was (and still is) where important government buildings were found. On one side there is the Palace of the Generalitat (the government of the Autonomous Community of Catalunya) and on the other stands the City Hall. This square has been witness to some of the most important events in recent Catalan history, such as the proclamation of the Catalan State in 1931 or the return of Josep Tarradelles from exile in 1977. On Sunday mornings, people come to dance the Sardana, the national dance of Catalonia -- it's a very Catalan moment and worth checking out.

Should I trust policeman in Spain?
Edward (27 Nov 2016 - 10:42)
It is my honeymoon with my wife to Europe. Almost the end of my trip.
My flight landed to Barcelona at 4pm & I booked a car for driving city of Barcelona.
After hotel, we go to city central La Rambla. I was look for the place to parking.
I found a ground yellow frame car parking & parked. However, I can't found any place to buy ticket.
I saw and asked to 2 policemen for parking issue. They are very friendly to tell me you are in Hotel car parking. One policeman go to see the pole sign which is Spanish I don't understand anyway. He told me the you better to drive backward to my now parking place. That's is not parking frame area & I had ask second time to no need to pay for ticket? They said "YES" with very nice smile. That is the time I went for dinner at 8pm arround.

After dinner, we walk around chrismas market & go back to take my car. It is about 10:45pm. I saw a police just finish to bill my car illegal parking fines. I ask him what happen to bill me? The policeman said "Here is not allow parking on after 10pm". I feel confusing on the underground sign & the fore policeman instruction. " Should I trust policeman? "
Go back to this policeman, he said "you can pay now or pay later. "
Should I trust you to pay money, I was thinking.
I was try to explain why I parking here, but the police told me something like no excuse & very impatient.
The policeman said if you want to compliant, 5 mins walk to police station.

I follow policeman instruction again to the police station at La Rambla near to Liceu metro station. The another police stop me in front of police station. I explain to him and ask for complaint. He is not allow me go inside to leave any complaint. He is very patient & try hard explain to me that he cannot do anything to us. He has a very good point about the sign on the ground. But I try to follow even now, any follow instruction of police but I'm very disappointed.

Conclusion:
1) My first attempt to Spain and the first day.
2) I have to enforce myself to follow the law of visiting country.
3) I cannot read Spanish that why I ask to police for help.
4) I follow police instruction to drive a parking location.
5) Another Police give me the fine for illegal parking on the non-parking area.
6) The illegal parking area fine is cased the car park behind 10pm base on the police said.

That's why my topic is "SHOULD I TRUST POLICE IN SPAIN?"
Where can I complaint to?
The fine should I pay or not?!

My email is [email protected], if anyone could tell me where & how can I complaint to ?
